H L Brown was founded in Sheffield in 1861 by Harris Brown, who started by repairing watches and clocks in the industrial Lower Don Valley quarter of the city. Whilst the firm has expanded gradually throughout Yorkshire and the East Midlands, H L Brown is still very much a family business. Michael Frampton, Chairman, is Harris's great grandson and his son, James, is the Managing Director and the fifth generation to be engaged in the business. H L Brown offers a broad range of jewellery in tasteful designs.

Unlike most jewellers, the company has a buying office in Antwerp, the world's largest market for polished diamonds, where the Directors personally inspect the quality of every single diamond purchased. H L Brown also specialises in period and antique jewellery, silver, watches and clocks, with highly qualified staff to provide sound advice.
