Osteopathy was first discovered in the USA in the 19th century and since then it has spread world wide. The British School of Osteopathy was founded in 1917.Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment which lays its’ main emphasis on the structural integrity of the body. Although best know as a treatment for bad backs and painful muscles and joints, it can in fact be used to treat a wide variety of problems. Osteopaths use their hands both to investigate the underlying causes of pain from a mechanical, functional and structural standpoint and then use a variety of manipulative techniques to return the functions to normal.Cranial Osteopathy (or Craniosacral Therapy) is a specialised area of Osteopathy which uses the rhythmic pulse of the cerebrospinal fluid for diagnosis and treatments. It is a particularly gentle technique and therefore most suitable for the elderly, babies, pregnant woman and others of similarly sensitive disposition.
