Mary Smith Photography

My passion for photography began when my family moved overseas at the end of the 90s to live in Tunisia, then Indonesia, Egypt and Oman. I took every opportunity to get off the beaten track with my camera, exploring the colourful souks and dusty alleyways, and chatting to the local people. I’ve always felt that my photos needed people to bring them alive. The old doors in the towns and villages fascinated me but having a person in the picture completed the story. During our last posting in Muscat, I gained a reputation as a travel and family photographer. Lots of families asked me to do their portraits. My aim was to take natural, un-posed shots, capturing the natural connections between people and bringing out their personalities — a style that continues in all my photography today.
