Nick Butler, the founder of Newleaf Furniture, followed his grandfather into the world of wood working and loves nothing more than the feel and smell of working in a cabinet making workshop. He graduated from the Peter Sefton School of Cabinet Making, near Malvern. Nick believes that the time he spent training was one of the most enjoyable periods of his life, due to the quality and breadth of the training provide by Peter Sefton. Nick now works with a number of fellow cabinet makers at the Mivart Artist Studios in Easton, a community of local artists and artisans. Nick believes that wood is a living entity, even once sawn from the tree, that requires you to feel how it is going to move and react as you work with it. From the initial rough cuts to the final finishing, wood has the ability to surprise and confound your efforts to create a new piece of furniture, making it such an interesting and enjoyable material to work with.
