Steven Parker qualified at University College Hospital Medical School, London in 1974. Postgraduate dental qualifications from the Royal College of Surgeons of England were obtained in 1975 and 1993.
From 1982 to 1998 he held the post of Staff Grade in Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery at Harrogate District Hospital.
In the field of dental implants, he has gained accreditation with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, gaining a Fellowship in 1993 and the higher, Diplomate Grade in 1994.
Since 1990, he has been actively involved in the use of lasers in dentistry. In 2005 he served as President of the Academy of Laser Dentistry, an International organisation that represents the use of lasers in dentistry. He holds Advanced Proficiency certification in all major laser wavelengths. From 1999 – 2004, he was editor of the Academy journal. He is a Recognised Course Provider and Educator for the Academy. In 1999, he was awarded the Leon Goldman Medal for excellence in clinical laser dentistry and in 2008, he was awarded Mastership status with the Academy. In 2010, he was presented with the Academy Distinguished Service Award.
