Massage is an ancient treatment used for calming & healing the body. There are over 80 different types of massage but all of them involve pressing, rubbing, and otherwise manipulating the muscles and other soft tissues of the body, often varying pressure and movement. Massage relaxes the soft tissues and increases delivery of blood and oxygen to the areas treated. The muscles, blood vessels and nerves are all stimulated during this process, helping to warm the area and release endorphins (those ‘feel good’ hormones), thereby decreasing pain. The increased circulation also boosts the immune system and speeds elimination of toxins from the system.
