I have always worked in healthcare and I have a passion for helping people get well. I was drawn to osteopathy as its focus is on the patient as a real person - not a 'back or shoulder problem' and enabling them to achieve health themselves. However, more recently I reflected on why some get better quickly, while others take much longer with similar conditions. I spent a lot of time researching why this might be. It's well known that stress is a big contributor to a person's health but it wasn't until I discovered the term stress illness that I appreciated just how responsible stress can be for physical pain. My research led me to the work of Dr John Sarno - a US professor who developed the pioneering approach of treating people's physical pain by addressing emotional problems such as stress, anger and fear. He has practiced in this way for about 40 years with incredible results.
